The handcrafted Majorero cheese earned its designation of protected origin in 1996. It is a goat cheese, produced with unpasteurized milk produced on the the island of Fuerteventura.

It has to mature for at least 60 days, and it has a strong, slightly spicy taste.

Outwardly, it is characterized by the marks of the moulds (pleitas) made with palm leaves.
